Geelong Flyers Junior Development Program
Athlete & Parent/Guardian Conduct
You will find the relevant Codes of Conduct below. It is an expectation that all athletes and parents/guardians will abide by the relevant Codes of Conduct. In addition to these codes we ask that the following expectations be adhered to:
-
Athletes are encouraged to discuss any issues they may have with their coaches. If they do not wish to discuss their concerns with any of the coaches, they may contact Tracy Dunstan for assistance in addressing their concerns.
-
Parents/Guardians and families are welcome and encouraged to support their athlete by attending game nights at Altona Netball Association. However, we ask that you do not attempt to coach from the sidelines. It is appropriate to say 'well done' or 'great work'. It is not appropriate to instruct the athletes on what or how they should be playing. Athletes are required to focus on the instructions of their coaches and should not be distracted by those supporting on the sidelinesIt is appropriate
-
There is nothing more disheartening or morale destroying that negative comments that can sometimes emanate from the spectator's bench. Please be mindful at all times that words have meaning and the power to destroy a young athlete's confidence whether it be intention or not.
There is a high expectation in this program that parents/guardians and supporters refrain from this type of behaviour.
-
As a parent, should you have any questions, concerns or feedback, please direct your initial enquiry to Tracy Dunstan or Paula Birch.
If you wish to receive feedback in relation to your athlete's progress or have questions regarding their current position, the coaching team are more than happy to make themselves available to discuss any issues you may have. However, you are requested to direct your initial enquiry to Tracy Dunstan who will then arrange for the coach to be available.
At no stage should a parent/guardian wishing to seek feedback, approach a coach on the bench, after a game or in any other arena or by text/phone call without following the above process.
Geelong Flyers Junior Development Program
Social Media Policy
The Flyers Junior Development Program (FJDP) recognises the importance of the Internet in shaping the public's perception of our Club. The FJDP also recognises the importance of our committee members, coordinators, coaches, athletes, parents, and volunteers in leading and setting the tone of social media interactions in a manner that advances the FJDP's mission and goals.
Mission Statement
To provide an extensive and professionally run program that offers talented young athletes the opportunity to experience a higher level of training and competition in preparation for seeking to play in the VNL competition.
To expose young athletes to a more holistic approach to improving their netball performance and their overall well-being.
This Social Media Policy applies to all committee members, coordinators, coaches, athletes, parents, and volunteers. This Social Media Policy applies to all social media content posted by the FJDP in their professional and personal capacity to the extent such content is related to the FJDP.
Aspirations
The FJDP strives to create a positive and inclusive organisation that is dedicated to helping young athletes reach their potential. In furtherance of this goal, the FJDP aspires to engage the local community in positive, honest, transparent, and knowledgable dialogue about the FJDP through social media. The FJDP views social media as an important tool for communicating its successes and opportunities for athletic and individual development. The FJDP also views social media as a platform for receiving constructive feedback from the community and for discussing the FJDP's challenges and opportunities for improvement in a positive and constructive way.
Guidelines
All users of any FJDP social media hall abide by the following guidelines:
-
Be positive and respectful, and always take the high road. When disagreeing with others' opinions, remain appropriate and polite. If you find yourself in a situation online that is becoming antagonistic, ask a FJDP committee member or coordinator for advice on how to disengage from the dialogue in a polite and respectful manner that reflects well on the FJDP.
-
Do not post content that would harm FJDP or damage FJDP's reputation. Remember that even while you are on your own personal time, you are a representative of the FJDP, and people may interpret your online postings or social interactions as though they were official FJDP statements.
-
Use good judgement when posting comments on any official FJDP sites. Bear in mind that your comments can create liability for the FJDP. If you are unsure whether a comment is appropriate to post, either do not post or obtain prior approval from the FJDP Committee.
-
Be smart about what you publish. Once something is posted, it exists online forever. Ask yourself, 'would I want to see this published in the newspaper or posted on a billboard tomorrow or ten years from now?'. If the answer is 'no', do not post.
-
Encourage others to engage in positive interactions on social media. If you are concerned about any person's use of social media, please bring your concerns to the attention of your coordinator or a member of the FJDP Committee.

Personally identifiable information (information such as a name and date or birth and/or a street address which, when taken together, can identify a particular individual) should not be disclosed in any manner on official FJDP social networking sites without the approval of a coordinator or FJDP committee member.
Violations of the Social Media Policy
The FJDP Committee shall have the authority to monitor and enforce this Social Media Policy. The FJDP Committee, and any individual appointed by the Executive Committee, shall have the authority to remove any inappropriate or offensive comments from official FJDP sites and to block any individual or organisation from posting on any official FJDP social media platform if they determine, in their sole discretion, that such removal or block is in the best interests of the FJDP.
The failure of any person to adhere to this Social Media Policy shall be considered a violation of the FJDP Code of Conduct, and any person who fails to adhere to this Social Media Policy shall be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of such individual's involvement in the FJDP.
