The Foundations of Development Talent is helpful. Effort is essential. In any high-performing environment, standards matter. Standards are not about perfection, they are about consistency. They define how we train, how we support one another, and how we respond to challenges. What We Mean By Effort Effort is: - showing up prepared - competing with intent - staying engaged - backing teammates - finishing drills with purpose Effort is visible in the small details. Why Standards Matter Standards create stability. They remove guesswork. They set expectations for behaviour, communication, preparation and mindset. When standards are clear: - athletes know what 'good' looks like - coaches can provide consistent feedback - teams build trust Standards raise performance because they raise consistency. Effort Builds Confidence Athletes who train with intent develop belief. Confidence grows when preparation meets opportunity. Effort creates readiness and readiness builds trust in oneself. The Bigger Picture Effort and standards extend beyond the court. They teach discipline, accountability and resilience - qualities that support athletes in sport and in life. Development is not built on moments. It is built on daily habits.
