As we wrap up an incredible 2025 season, the Flyers Junior Development Program would like to reflect on what has been a year of growth, achievement, and exciting change.
This year marked our first season competing in the Western Conference State Super Netball Series — a fantastic opportunity for our athletes to test themselves against their peers in the same age group. The standard of competition has been outstanding, and our players have risen to the challenge with determination, teamwork, and pride.
We have seen remarkable growth both on and off the court — from skill development and tactical understanding to leadership, resilience, and confidence. Each athlete should be proud of their personal progress and contribution to the Flyers culture.
A huge congratulations to Team One and Team Three for reaching their respective grand finals, with both teams delivering outstanding performances and taking out the title. What an incredible achievement!
Special recognition goes to our award winners:
Maya Rhodes and Isla Webber – Emma McVilly Most Promising Player Award
Erin McGinness – Jan Oman Award of Merit
We are also incredibly proud to see Georgia Hannagan, Sienna McGuiness and Scarlotte Benney take the next step in their netball journey as they progress to the Geelong Netball Club Cougars as training partners for 2026. We wish them every success as they continue to grow and shine.
Our sincere thanks and appreciation go to our coaches – Taryn, Paula, Jacqui, Tyra, Adam, Lucy and Elly – for their outstanding commitment and contribution throughout the season. Their hard work, preparation, and passion have once again delivered another successful and rewarding year for our athletes.
We also recognise their efforts in not only supporting the growth of the Flyers program, but also their own growth and development as coaches, which continues to strengthen the quality and sustainability of what we do.
A special mention to Lucy and Elly, who joined the Flyers program for the first time this year. Their enthusiasm, fresh perspective, and dedication have been a wonderful addition to the team, and we look forward to their continued involvement in the years ahead.
Behind the scenes, our success wouldn’t be possible without the tireless administrative work of Paula and Vicky. The amount of planning, communication, and coordination that goes into running the Flyers program is immense, and their commitment, passion, and desire to see Flyers continue to grow and succeed is truly appreciated.
We would also like to recognise Taryn’s behind-the-scenes work in continually growing and managing our social media presence. Her efforts have helped promote the program, celebrate our players, and share the Flyers story with the wider community — helping our program reach new audiences and strengthen our identity.
A big thank you to the Geelong Athlete Centre team — Dave, Bree and Pip — for their continued support and expertise in developing a specialised running and strength program for our netballers. Their work has played a vital role in improving our athletes’ performance, endurance, and injury prevention throughout the season.
A heartfelt thank you to all parents for your ongoing support — from cheering courtside to helping on Tuesday nights and scoring games, your contribution keeps our program strong and connected.
A special thank you to Kirsty Brisbane for leading the development of our Wellbeing Program, which provided valuable support and education around mental health — both in a sporting environment and in everyday life.
We also extend our gratitude to Caitlin Thwaites, Stephen Rendell, and the “Tackle Your Feelings” program for sharing their insights and practical strategies that have helped our netballers build confidence, awareness, and resilience both on and off the court. Your involvement has been an invaluable addition to our wellbeing initiatives.
As we close the season, we celebrate every player, coach, volunteer, and supporter who has helped make 2025 such a success. We wish those Flyers who are not continuing in the program all the best in all your endeavours both on and off the court. The Flyers spirit continues to grow stronger each year — and we can’t wait to see what 2026 brings!
Go Flyers!
